My favorite Charlottesville area farm sold so far this year is Middle River Farm over in the Valley. Superb value for the money and it has everything…Fabulous history, a beautiful river (Middle River) flowing through it, and 129 acres of serene, bucolic farmland. Built in 1850, this home has both history and secrets. It’s one of the few homes not burned when Union General Sheridan came through en route to Atlanta. “The Burning was carried out by Union general Sheridan, who replaced Hunter in August with orders to “follow Early to the death.” Sheridan defeated Early at the Third Battle of Winchester and at Fisher’s Hill in September and then embarked on a war against the land.” While the home looks small, it is not. 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. Almost 4600 sq ft. See here Listing Remarks say it all Middle River Farm is a distinctive estate property.

The 1850 residence was fully renovated to the last detail by the current owner, including structural, mechanical, and interior systems. The character of the original structure was respectfully preserved. The quality of the design and choice of materials is excellent. It is elegant, inviting, and in move-in condition. There are two stories above grade plus a full English Basement. All three floors are served by an elevator. There is a dressing room with full built-in closet and dresser units. There is custom built-in cabinetry in many of the rooms, and the window treatments and other interior appointments are rich and neutral. My true love is selling Charlottesville historic farms. In fact, between 2004-2008 I covered all of Virginia showing historic farms. Once I drove 4 hours to a remote area of NW Virginia in Frederick County to show an 18th-century farm. When we pulled into the driveway, my customers gave me the thumbs-down. I did a U-turn and drove the 4.5 hours home. They eventually purchased a Madison Virginia farm after 3 years of hunting. I was exhausted! So, if you are hunting let me know and I’ll send you the link to my three farms & historic homes sites. Always use a savvy Charlottesville realtor (since 2003) and get the correct comps when you decide to make an offer on any Charlottesville homes.
