There are 190 townhomes in the Dunlora(s) as I will call them which includes Dunlora Forest (Ryan Homes and Stanley Martin Homes), Dunlora Gates (Ryan Homes and Stanley Martin Homes), Dunlora Park (Greenwood Homes & Evergreen Builders), Dunlora Village (Craig Builders & Greenwood Homes), and Shepherd’s Ridge at Dunlora (which is in the original Dunlora but a separate luxury townhome community built by Ryan Homes & Stanley Martin Homes).

All 5 Dunlora neighborhoods are located next to each other and were developed by Southern Development Homes, Evergreen Builders, Greenwood Homes, Ryan Homes, and Stanley Martin Homes.

Shepherd’s Ridge at Dunlora (in Dunlora proper) was the first to be developed in 2000.

Albemarle County Public Schools that serve the Dunlora(s) are Agnor Elementary, Burley Middle, and Albemarle High Schools.

My Thoughts – I love the original Dunlora neighborhood where Shepherd’s Ridge is. It’s attractive with amenities including tennis and great walking trails. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance lifestyle in a convenient location, consider buying a luxury townhome in one of Charlottesville’s many desirable neighborhoods. There are many reasons to choose a townhome in Dunlora. I am not in love with the other neighborhoods around Dunlora which includes Dunlora Forest, Dunlora Gates, and Dunlora Park since Dunlora Village is being developed directly across the street from these neighborhoods. The noise and traffic will be intolerable.

Note – Dunlora was once a fine 18th-century plantation located on the South Rivanna River. It was recently demolished. From change.org: Dunlora Plantation…”designed about 1730 and built for Dabney Carr it’s presence has been on this tract of land (originally 10,000 acres) sold down to 5,000 acres. It was passed down in the family to Colonel Samuel Carr then to William Dabney in 1846 later on to John Barclay Moon who was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for several years whom is buried near the main house along with his wife and several other family. the Dunlora neighborhood surrounds it.”
