CAAR Firmly Supports PHA Response to University of Virginia RFQ

CAAR’s Code of Public Policy states, “we believe that the real estate industry, non-profit partners and the state and local governments all can work together in establishing policies and programs which promote an adequate supply of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing, and which reduce regulatory and other barriers to housing availability and affordability.” We believe the affordable housing effort by UVA embodies the cooperative theme of this important concept.

While not an exclusive endorsement, CAAR firmly supports Piedmont Housing Alliance’s (PHA) response to your request for qualifications (RFQ). PHA brings forward much more than one organization’s abilities and intellectual assets. Their ability to build working relationships inclusive of the many entities involved in housing affordability is without peers.

This effort is led by PHA in partnership with a comprehensive range of mission-driven development and consulting partners that embody a holistic spectrum of community development and housing opportunity expertise, from LIHTC to homeownership, from early education expertise to employment services. PHA and its partners have conducted some of the most innovative, resident-led development and redevelopment projects in the nation.

Based on our experience with these organizations and the transparent and collaborative manner PHA leadership personifies, we find PHA (and its partners) to be eminently qualified for the development challenges anticipated in UVA’s affordable housing.

CAAR serves more than 1,400 real estate professionals and affiliate members throughout Central Virginia.

The Association advocates for the protection of private property rights and provides tools and technology for members to achieve expertise in serving the needs of customers and clients.

Thank you for your leadership on this important issue and do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely, Pam Dent, CAAR 2022 President
